Summer picnic with raw food and good company; what can be more fun!
So, it looks like the weather is holding out nicely, and this will be our third attempt in making our potluck meeting a nice, relaxing summer picnic. I cannot imagine a better way to enjoy the food that comes directly from nature and still resembling nature than in the cool shade of a lush, green tree with the sun shining on our cheeks. Oh, there will be kids playing and people singing……. I know, I got carried away, forgive me for that!
We will be meeting this Saturday, August 8th at Angrignon park, which is directly connected and very close to the metro station Angrignon on the green line. The meeting area that we have selected for this picnic is only about a 100 meters away from the south exit of the metro and is close to the covered building of the original petting zoo, which is under construction right now. We will have a rainbow of balloons set up, so it will be very easy to pick us out from the crowd of other picnickers.
We can start setting up our picnic tables as early as 5pm, please, don’t rush if it is too early for you. The early comers will be hanging out and playing soccer, freesbie and just catching up with each other. We will aim to eat supper around 6pm and then stay and enjoy nature and each others’ company.
If you have any friends, you can invite them and of course, you can bring your little ones along, this is a great place for them too!!!
Food suggestions: here is a couple of things that might work really well for this picnic that are easy to prepare and travel well. This is such a good time of the year to be able to make simple foods with the abundance of fresh, local produce in every market. Think finger foods, no utensils, well, maybe toothpicks and richness of taste and colour.
- cut up fruit or fruits that are easy to eat with just hands (grapes, berries, cherries, bananas…)
- crudites and a dip with that
- rolled up food, such as raw sushi, spring rolls, veggie rolls
- desserts such as chocolate balls, date coconut balls
- crackers, mini pizzas
- dehydrated kale chips, zucchini chips
But, please, do not obsess too much about what to bring, just come and have fun! I am sure you will learn so much by meeting our wonderful group members.
Looking forward to seeing you all there and please, keep thinking sunshine!!!
Make what is left from your week rawsome!
